I have come to realise that sometime over the last two weeks a bomb went off in my house. I’m not sure when or how, but it seems as though the housework has gotten ahead of me. I mean, I’ve been doing housework and keeping up with everyday type stuff, but somehow extra stuff accumulated. Or something.
My house isn’t perfect — Show me a house with three kids and a dog that is perfect and I’ll show you a family who can afford a cleaning crew — but I try to keep it presentable. Yes, sure, there was that one time I was having people over and I had forgotten to dust and when I realised it I decided I didn’t care anymore and when my Mom walked in she went into cleaning mode; dusting dusting. Mom hates dust. I mean who really loves it? Not me, but at the time I had other priorities to be concerned about.
So, yeah, somehow my house has turned upside down. Strangely enough, I’m caught up on the laundry.
Today I have started a room by room deep clean. Spring cleaning if you will. I started with my bedroom (which a corner of doubles as my office). I even put all our clean laundry away. Michael won’t know who’s room he stepped into when he gets home. But I bet $100 he leaves his work clothes on the floor. My room is usually the last I tackle, because no one sees it but us. It makes me insane to have a messy bedroom — I was one of those kids every parent dreams about who had a tidy and organized room all the time. My sister, on the other hand, was a parents’ nightmare. Sorry sis, it’s true. I’ve decided I’m going to try (emphasis on try) to make sure my room is clean. It’s my bedroom. It’s supposed to be a sanctuary away from the kids, is it not?
I’m dragging the kids and Michael to the play and family rooms in the basement on the weekend. We are going to purge. It’s going to be so much fun. They haven’t been told yet. Maybe I’ll save it for next weekend because Michael and I have a race this weekend and well, I’ll need my beauty sleep.
Tomorrow I think I’m going to tackle the kitchen. The top of the fridge is a drop off zone for many things. I’m not sure why, but I hate it. Its the messiest spot in my house. It will likely take me an hour to clean just that part. The rest of the kitchen will be a breeze because I keep up on it daily. However some cupboards need to be rearranged, so I might tackle that as well. Hopefully my 2 year old nephew isn’t too much of a handful tomorrow so I can actually get some work done. Usually he’s good, but it’ll be the day I decide to tackle a big job that he acts like a 2 year old to the max!
Are you doing a spring cleaning too?
